FAQs

Frequently asked questions about savings accounts for charities.

Yes, charities can have a savings account. Our 35 Day Notice Charity Saver is specially designed to meet the needs of registered charities, while our Business 1 Year Fixed Rate Bond, Business 90 Day Notice and Everyday Business Saver accounts are open to charities, limited companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs).

Building society charity savings accounts pay interest gross. However, unlike a commercial business, charities don’t generally have to pay tax on their savings interest.

As with personal accounts, the best account for your charity will depend on your goals. Our 35 Day Notice Charity Saver and Everyday Business Saver instant access accounts will help with saving for short term goals and allow you to take advantage of opportunities to grow your business as they arise.

Or, if you’re saving for the long term, why not consider our Business 1 Year Fixed Rate Bond or Business 90 Day Notice Account.

Broadly speaking, charity savings accounts work in much the same way as personal savings accounts. Take a look at the full range of products on offer, select the best one for your charity’s needs, deposit your funds and watch your savings grow over time.

Use our handy savings account finder to view our full range of charity savings accounts and find out which option is best for your organisation.

Our charity savings accounts are available to organisations based in our local postcode areas AL, CB, CM, CO, IP, LU, NR, PE or SG. They aren’t available to sole traders, unregistered charities, informal partnerships or clubs. Other restrictions may apply, so please check the individual product terms and conditions.

To open an account, you’ll need to book an appointment with your branch or regional manager to complete an application form and make a deposit. Speak to us today to book your appointment. Alternatively, you can post your application form to us. Please note, charity savings accounts cannot be opened online or over the phone though.
