Confirmation of Payee is a name checking service, designed to help protect you against fraud, and to help prevent payments going to the wrong place.

When making a payment via a website or an app, Confirmation of Payee checks the details you’re using against the name on the account you want to pay into. A message is displayed to confirm whether the details ‘match’ so you can see whether your payment is being sent to the right place.

The results of the check will show up before any monies are sent, giving you the opportunity to amend or cancel your payment instruction, if you want to.

Confirmation of Payee checking won’t be possible:

• Within the first 48 hours of opening a new account
• If you’re paying into an account at a bank or building society that doesn’t use Confirmation of Payee.

In these circumstances you can still make a payment, so you will need to check the details carefully to make sure they’re correct.

To opt out of Confirmation of Payee, please download and complete the form below. You can type into the boxes (handwritten forms are also accepted). Send your completed form by post to Suffolk Building Society, Freehold House, 6-8 The Havens, Ransomes Europark, Ipswich, Suffolk IP3 9SJ.

Confirmation of Payee has been in use since June 2021 by all major UK banks. Since then, either voluntarily or at the direction of the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR), many more banks and building societies have adopted Confirmation of Payee.

Confirmation of Payee is organised by Pay.UK, on the PSR’s behalf, with the underlying Trust and Security framework provided by the UK’s Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE).

Confirmation of Payee checking only uses your name and account number. Details of how we use your information can be found on our Privacy Policy.

If you’re making a payment to your account and being told the name doesn’t match, then it may be that we don’t have your correct name on our records.

If your name changes – for example, after getting married – then please let us know by getting in touch.

For electronic payments by Faster Payments or BACs enter the Society’s details as follows:

• Sort code: 23-44-48
• Account number: 00004000.
• Payee: Use your first and last name (please don’t use ‘Suffolk Building Society’).
• Reference: please use your unique Suffolk Building Society mortgage / savings account number where you wish the funds to be placed.

If this is a new mortgage or savings account, it may take up to 48 hours for online banking facilities to verify our details. So, please ensure you check these details carefully.
