Twilight 5k races – one month to go!

There’s only a month to go until this year’s 5k Twilight Road Races, an afternoon of athletics to be held on Saturday 12 May at Ipswich Waterfront from 1.30pm, culminating in the elite 5k race at 7pm.

Building on the success of previous years, this year’s Twilight Races have been split into two events, with the mass-participation 10k race happening on Friday 3 August. As with previous years this will take place on a fast, flat route around the town centre, starting and finishing at Suffolk New College.

The 5k race has been expanded into a full afternoon of racing and athletics on Ipswich Waterfront and will now take place in May. Events on the day include a Daily Mile for schoolchildren, a Most Active County 2k family run and three 5k runs for varying abilities. There is also an ABP Business Challenge for organisations entering a team of three and hoping to take home the business trophy.

The day will finish with the elite 5k race for those expecting to complete the course in less than 20 minutes. Limited spaces are available for this event and we are pleased to be welcoming elite athletes such as Gemma Steel, recently part of the GB team competing in the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia.

We hope this year’s events will be more inclusive than ever before, allowing participants of all ages and abilities to take part. Last year we welcomed more than 1,700 runners across both races so we expect that this will be a very popular event, giving participants the opportunity to run on a closed waterfront course and across the lock gate.

We hope to see you there!
