Last month we were pleased to continue our support for Ipswich Housing Action Group (IHAG) with a cheque for £1,830.55, donated through our Mutual Advantage charity support account.

IHAG are a local charity operating in and around Ipswich focused on alleviating homelessness and deprivation by providing advice and coaching and temporary accommodation through its network of hostels across Ipswich. The cheque was presented to IHAG Chief Executive Halford Hewitt, who earlier this year received an MBE for services to charity in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The Society supports IHAG through our Mutual Advantage account, where each of our nine branches is partnered with their own local charity. Each year a 1% bonus of the average Mutual Advantage account balances is donated to each branch’s nominated charity. Our Mutual House (formerly Sailmakers) branch is supporting IHAG for the third and final year before a new charity will be chosen on 1 July 2019.

Such is the success of this partnership that Tom Jell, Customer Experience Manager at Mutual House, last year became a trustee of IHAG after being moved by the work that IHAG do in the community. Commenting on the presentation, Tom Jell said “We are delighted to have raised such a significant amount for IHAG – we have decided to continue supporting them into our third and final year and hope we can get them even more next year!”
