Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, giving people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences. We are delighted to be opening our town centre branch, Mutual House, as part of the celebrations.
Originally built as the Ipswich branch of Parr's bank in 1901, we purchased the building in 2016 and in spent time restoring it both inside and out. A number of original features can be found throughout, including the original high ceiling which we discovered during building works and subsequently exposed and renovated back to its former glory. Especially for Heritage Open Weekend visitors will also be able to take a peek into the basement to view the original bank vault, larder, coal cellar and night safe.
The Grade II listed building was designed by prominent local architect Thomas Cotman and built in 1901, featuring 2 storey oriel windows, quatrefoils and finished with rooftop pinnacles.

Sunday 16 September: 1000 – 1500

Located right in the heart of Ipswich, opposite the Corn Exchange and overlooking the Giles Statue.
The main site is wheelchair friendly via an access lift and the majority of the site can be viewed by anyone. There is a relatively narrow and steep flight of stairs leading down to the basement.
