The Hadleigh branch of the Royal British Legion have created a mural to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, 8th May 1945, when peace returned to Europe after 5 years of war. The mural has been installed on the side of our Hadleigh branch which is located in the High Street.
The scene is taken from a photograph and depicts the men landing on the beaches on D-Day, 6 June 1944. While this was almost a year before VE Day it was one of the most significant events of WW2 and an iconic WW2 scene.
The mural has been painted by Mark Brennan, Chairman of the Hadleigh & District Royal British Legion and amateur artist. Mark served in the British Army for 29 years and painted a couple of murals for his squadron whilst in Afghanistan. This is the second time Mark has painted a mural in the town, the first in 2018 to celebrate the 1918 armistice anniversary.
