We’re thrilled to bring back member events! After a two-year absence, we’re pleased to announce our live member events are back in business. Where better to start than by partnering up with our friends Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and their 500-year-old private nature reserve Old Broom. This is an exclusive opportunity not to be missed.

What is the event?

This is a free event including Suffolk Wildlife Trust private tour, cake, refreshments, and minibus transport to and from Lackford Lakes on Friday 8 April 2022. As part of our climate change commitments, we’ll also be sharing tips on rewilding and conservation.

What is Old Broom?

Extraordinary, magical, there are many ways to describe Old Broom and none would be an exaggeration. Wood-pasture was a once extensive habitat, but much was grubbed out for agriculture.

Today, just fragments of this important habitat remain in Suffolk, with Old Broom amongst the best.

Owned and deeply cared for by the Hanbury family for two generations, Old Broom was gifted to Suffolk Wildlife Trust in 2013, an act of great generosity that will ensure that this extraordinary place will remain extraordinary in perpetuity.

How can I get involved?

Old Broom is usually closed to the public, but we’re able to offer our members a glimpse and chance to explore thanks to our friends at Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Register your attendance to be entered into the ballot draw, where the lucky ones selected (there will be 18 spaces available for the trip) will be taken on a behind the scenes tour of Old Broom. You will be placed into a ballot and we will get in touch via email on Friday 1st April if you are successful or not.

You can register for this members-only exclusive event in branch or you can sign up at this page of the website: https://www.suffolkbuildingsociety.co.uk/member-events/private-nature-reserve-tour/
