We’ve been helping members save and buy a home for over 170 years. We achieve this through a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff, with an authentic culture of appreciation. Our inclusive recruitment practices and mentoring and development help ensure unbiased career opportunities.
So much more
than just work.
A career with Suffolk Building Society is much more than a job. But then, we are much more than just a mortgage and savings business.
Unlike banks, we have no shareholders. Instead we have over 60,000 members, all with an equal say in how we’re run. It makes us a very democratic organisation, and one for whom values are as influential as rules.
Benefits
Why work with us?
An inclusive and positive culture
Real career progression
We offer training, professional development and access to qualifications to help develop your career. We’ll even reward you with a financial award on completion of certain qualifications. With a range of roles across the branch network and at head office, your first job with us really could take you anywhere.
Pension
Our pension scheme includes employer contributions of a minimum of 7%, with employees paying 5%, and this could increase as you develop your career. We also offer you an introductory call with an independent financial advisor who can help with your planning for the future. All employees receive life cover.
Holidays and work life balance
A minimum of 34 days of annual leave (inclusive of 8 bank and public holidays), pro-rated for part-time hours. We believe in a healthy work-life balance and are always happy to discuss flexible working patterns.
Healthcare and wellness
Our healthcare cash plan helps cover the costs of some basic medical bills such as dental, physiotherapy and optical. It also includes virtual GP appointments and access to wellbeing resources and counselling.
Employee Engagement
We invite staff to sit on dedicated committees that help to steer the future of the Society and help to inform the Board on vital issues such as accessibility for vulnerable members, our environment safeguarding, and product development. We regularly survey staff to gather anonymous feedback and monitor staff engagement on key themes.
Volunteering
All staff members can spend half a day each month volunteering for a good cause, primarily for one of our five strategic charity partners. This offers employees different opportunities to use the time that they have available in a strategic and effective way, to most benefit each organisation. We also offer matched funding so staff can fundraise to reduce inequality and improve our local communities.
Mindful Employer
As signatories to The Charter for Employers Positive About Mental Health, we have committed to uphold set values to support the mental health and wellbeing of our staff. This includes non-judgemental and proactive support, being positive and enabling toward all employees and applicants. We also support our line managers in managing mental health in the workplace.
