The 2018 Ipswich Twilight 10k race was once again a roaring success as more than 1,500 runners took to the streets, despite what was an uncomfortably muggy evening for running.
The event, run by Ipswich JAFFA and supported by title sponsors Ipswich Building Society, could not materialise without our race partners and supporters: Ensors Chartered Accountants, University of Suffolk, Associated British Ports, Most Active County, John Banks, Allied Health Professionals Suffolk and Curtis Banks, and of course with our charity partner Inspire Suffolk.
Starting and finishing at Suffolk New College, the runners set off at 7.30pm along the fast, flat route through the town centre, with the aim to beat the sunset. The evening ran smoothly as our well-oiled machine of volunteers and staff sprung into action, and (if I do say so myself!) particularly those stationed on the finishing line rushing to hand out medals and goody bags to the exhausted runners shuffling through. Our thanks also to the marshalls who ensured the safe running of event throughout the course.
A new course record was set by winner Jack Millar of the Ipswich Harriers, with Alex Lawrence and Ben Carpendale coming second and third respectively. Helen Davies, of Ipswich JAFFA, set a new women’s course record of 34 minutes 14 seconds, smashing the previous record by more than two minutes.
The popularity of the event has shown once again that the Ipswich Twilight races are now firmly established as one of the most well-known events in the Suffolk running calendar. For those who are already looking forward to next year, registrations for the 5k series in May are now open.
