As we begin to embrace all things festive, our friends over at Families Suffolk magazine came up with the delightful idea of creating an advent calendar… with a difference.

The past decade has seen a real social drive of communities coming together to support, generate and develop one another with the simplest of gestures demonstrating a sense of community belonging. Advent calendars are known for their sweet treat behind a numbered window to signify the countdown to Christmas, so we’ve decided to flip the script by suggesting 25 random acts of kindness to help your family have a positive impact in your local community.

Why not leave a Christmas card on the doorstep for the postie or make a handmade gift? ‘Kindness’ is the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate, and is a great way to approach the most wonderful time of the year (as proclaimed by Andy Williams’ 1963 song) so why not put a smile on the face of someone in your community.

As a society, we have been serving our local communities for 170 years and are all about helping our members to grow as prosper. Our branch and head office staff volunteer for a wide range of charitable organisations, some of which can be found in the Families Suffolk magazine. We’re proud to support out local communities through events, fundraising and sponsorships.

Every member of the family can have a go and we would love for you to share pictures of your random acts of kindness via the Families Suffolk magazine Facebook and Twitter pages.

This article was published under our previous name of Ipswich Building Society. We changed our name in 2021 – find out more.
