*** Please note ***
Readers of the Ipswich Star may have seen an article published on 13 June, stating that Suffolk Building Society is moving its headquarters. We would like to inform readers this was simply a publishing error and that we will actually be looking for a new location for our Ipswich town centre branch, not our headquarters, as per our blog post below.
The Society will be looking for a new location for its Ipswich town centre branch in the latter half of 2024. The new location will remain in the town centre, near to the current branch.
The current building is called Mutual House, and is located at 2 Princes St, Ipswich IP1 1QT. It is a Grade II listed building, built in 1901. The Society does not use most of the upstairs space and it is impractical for members and staff.
We will still be focused on what matters most to members: a place where you can meet with staff face-to-face to discuss your savings and get access to your cash.
The Society will work hard to make sure the new Ipswich branch is easy to get to and accessible inside. We will maintain the same levels of service at the new branch.
We will continue to update you as our plans develop.
Richard Norrington, Chief Executive Officer at Suffolk Building Society said: “Mutual House has been a good location for the Society for many years, but we feel a new owner could make better use of the entire building.
“Our members and the public will see the ‘for sale’ sign outside the building in the near future. We want to reassure everyone that we are very much committed to new premises in the town centre.
“We firmly believe in traditional branches for those who value face-to-face customer service. This complements our new online service, launched late last year.
“We will keep our members and other interested parties informed of our plans as they develop.”
